Iberovías builds the extension of the commuter rail service of La Cartuja in Sevilla

 

Iberovías, a company of the Rover Alcisa Group specialized in construction and maintenance of railway superstructure is going to carry out the works of extending the rail service in La Cartuja in Seville. The works have a lead time of 10 months. With this work, the Rover Alcisa Group through Iberovías specifies the expansion of the territorial coverage of commuter service from the optimization of the existing railway network and increasing the supply of rail transport.

The Commuter Plan envisages the creation of a new line connecting the Island of La Cartuja with Santa Justa including the construction of new stations and infrastructure improvements in the urban ring. Along with Iberovías, the companies Sando and Elecnor also participate on the execution of the contract in a joint venture. 

 

The scope of works includes part of the Ramal Exterior Madrid-Seville, the Ramal of Huelva, bifurcation los Naranjos, line Seville-Huelva and el Ramal of La Cartuja, including current halts of the Olympic Stadium and La Cartuja, running in the province of Seville in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia.

 

The main purpose of the work is to get a new commuter line from Santa Justa to the station of La Cartuja, which will be commonplace across the track line and three new stations or halts.

Key activities

The works include three major areas of relevance. The first involves the construction of the new stopping place of San Jerónimo (St. Jerome), which will have a central platform, passenger building and pedestrian bridge of communication between them, saving the Ronda Super-Norte and the Arroyo Tamarguillo and the implementation of a parking.

 

The second and third involve the adequacy of the current Olympic Stadium Halt with a new passenger building and two platforms, and also the adequacy of the present station of La Cartuja, a new passenger building and three platforms. It will rehabilitate the marquee type fabric covering the platform area. Besides the works also include the construction of a new platform in the track that needs to be doubled (1.3 km) and the consolidation of existing landfills in the rest of the section. Furthermore, it also makes the construction of a new overpass on PK 0 +410 Line Seville-Huelva and a viaduct on the way to double, on its way across the Guadalquivir River.

Interventions via

In this area there are three unique actions as the doubling of track in the stretch between the Bifurcation de Los Naranjos and the bifurcation of San Jerónimo (1.3 km long), the connection between St. Jerome Bifurcation of the stretch path parallel to the Seville-Huelva line that remains in gauge, and gauge changes in the latter to fit the conventional wide (5.3 km) and the assembly of 5 escapes and 8 turnouts.  

Regarding electrification, we can highlight the placement of standard compensated catenary type CA-160 in the double track and double gates at stations. It will also carry out the adaptation of remote control switches to the new scheme provided for the reinstatement of services affected, the actions of environmental integration, the provision of urban enclosure and security installations and satellite communications. It will all be integrated in an independent project.
